Manufacturing
Based in Suffolk, Bilco UK can supply the trade with a range of standard
roof hatches, smoke vents and floor doors in various sizes, and
materials direct from stock. If a special is required our fast track
shop allows us to deliver in an industry leading 4-6 weeks. Our quality
access products comply with current Building Regulations and legislation
and are engineered to provide many years of trouble free service. All
products come with a minimum 10 years warranty.
Natural Smoke Vents
Natural smoke vents help remove smoke and gases from burning buildings
primarily to provide clearer escape routes for people within the
building. They also aid firefighter’s visibility when entering the
building to tackle the fire and reduce the lateral spread of the fire;
important to reduce the damage to the building and its contents.
Used widely in the stairwell, corridor, smoke shaft and on roof areas of
factories, warehouses, auditoria and retail facilities.
The Bilco REM single leaf ventilator opens to the fire open position of
140º within 60 seconds, meeting the requirements of Approved Document B
and EN12101-2 to ensure rapid dispersal of smoke and noxious fumes. In
addition the construction of the ventilator includes rigid
polyisocyanurate insulation to the cover and the curb to provide maximum
thermal efficiency and a closed cell EPDM gasket to ensure the air
leakage requirements of Building Regulations Part L are achieved. Their
design means that nearly all REM vents can be used for access onto the
roof area and can also be linked into the BMS for comfort ventilation.
Bilco are also able to supply the essential control equipment to enable
control of the ventilator for smoke control, comfort ventilation or
access.
Roof Access Hatches
Roof access hatches provide safe and convenient access to the roof areas
for routine maintenance and inspection as well as for servicing of HVAC
systems and other roof mounted equipment. They are ideally suited for
use in office buildings, flats, factories, warehouses, retail stores,
shopping complexes, hotels, manufacturing plants, hospitals, schools,
auditoria and sports facilities where roof access is a requirement.
The wide range of stock sizes will provide access solutions for ladder,
ship stair, and full sized stairways or for equipment access
applications. Standard sizes are available ex stock and are generally
delivered to site within 2-3 working days.
All Bilco roof hatches are manufactured to provide a high degree of
thermal efficiency and are supplied with 50mm of polyisocyanurate
insulation to both the up stand and the cover. In addition the cover is
fitted with a closed cell EPDM gasket designed to reduce the air leakage
though the closed cover ensuring the air leakage requirements of
Building Regulations Part L are achieved. The unique counterbalancing
spring mechanism ensures that all hatches are easily operable by one
person to assist designers and employees in meeting the requirements of
the Manual Handling Regulations.
The acoustic, thermal and air leakage performance of these hatches, as
well as their resistance to wind and snow load and to impact, has been
independently verified by tests at Taylor Woodrow’s technology centre in
Bedfordshire.
Floor Access Doors
Pit and floor doors provide access to equipment stored underground or
below/between building floors. Products include drainage doors, non
drainage doors, doors that receive flooring materials, doors for
interior applications, fire rated doors, and special application doors.
The doors are available to suit a range of loading capabilities and are
all fitted with the unique counterbalancing spring mechanism to ensure
that doors are easily operable within the Manual Handling Regulations.
Floor Access Covers
 Bilco
floor access covers are designed to provide convenient, direct access to
underground areas and services, while blending in with the surface in
which they are laid. The covers incorporate metal pans, which accept a
wide variety of floor materials, allowing them to go virtually unnoticed
in the surrounding floor. Typical applications include airports,
underground railways, warehouses, hospitals, retail outlets and general
commercial building interiors.
Pan Covers
Shallow-pan, standard-pan and deep-pan covers are supplied in pan depths
from 27 to 102mm. Available in lift-out and hinged designs, they are
suitable for all kinds of horizontal access applications.
Fire-rated Pan Covers
BV-F90 fire-rated covers are certified to resist fire for 90 minutes
following a live test by the Institute of Fire Protection Technology &
Safety Research (IBS).
Insulated Pan Covers
BV-Thermo insulated covers incorporate an insulation plate with thermal
properties as follows: resistance 3.2m2K/W; co-effiecient 0.3W/m2K.
Sealed Duct Covers
BVA sealed duct covers are suitable for continuous access to pipes and
cables. They are available in two- or three-part assemblies, which
feature demountable cross-beams that can be removed without tools.
Systems can be specifically designed for longer runs.
Operation
All covers have a tapered profile that makes them easy to remove and
operate, and secure when closed. They are also available with a hinged
design that features lift assistance for applications requiring regular
opening with minimum effort. Lift-off covers use a 'golden key', which
is inserted into one of the four corner keyways on the cover. The unique
shaft design breaks the seal between the cover and the surrounding
frame. This, coupled with the tapered profile of the cover itself,
allows even a 'sticking' cover to be easily removed from the frame. The
keyways also provide lifting points. Each cover comes with two keys to
enable it to be moved easily to one side to provide access to services
or underground space.
Composition & Manufacture
Panels are available in 2mm-thick cold-formed, galvanised mild steel, in
grade 304 stainless steel, or in aluminium. Available in a range of
depths, covers are precision manufactured, and some feature a full EPDM
seal that is capable of withstanding up to a 1000mm head of water.
Finish & Appearance
Cover pans are available in four depths - 27, 50, 66 and 102mm - to
accommodate brick, concrete, paviours, tiles, carpeting or other
materials,
allowing panels to merge with factory and warehouse floors.
Safety Products
Bilco offer a range of safety products including Ladder Up Safety Posts
to provide a hand hold for persons mounting or demounting a fixed
vertical ladder and a products to provide fall protection around
openings in the roof or the floor.
