Thurston Group Limited was founded under the original name of BTH
Tools (Leeds) Limited. Sales were first obtained through
manufacturing and supplying trailers and spares. Over the next few
years there followed a period of steady growth and in 1978
additional manufacturing space was acquired to accommodate expansion
into rolling chassis for export.
History
1981 - the Company had entered into the design, manufacture and
marketing of pre-fabricated, anti-vandal and portable steel
buildings, specifically for the Construction Industry for use as
secure site offices and stores. The physical size of these units and
rapid growth in this market necessitated relocation to larger
premises in 1987. The Company's name was also changed to BTH
Industries Limited reflecting the change in market for its products.
1986 - the Company achieved The Buying Agency (TBA) Approved
Supplier status with the Department of the Environment's Executive
Buying Agency. Successful registration is now maintained with "OGC
Buying Solutions".
1989 - the premises were doubled in size as both the customer base
and product range widened considerably. Manufacture includes single
units to multi-bay link modular complexes of almost unlimited floor
area and up to three storeys high. To keep up with the changing
demands the Company has invested heavily in computerised design and
manufacturing technology and, in 1991, attained a ISO9002 Quality
Assurance Certificate of Accreditation with Lloyds Register Quality
Assurance.
1993 - the Company established three quite distinctive operating
divisions and changed its name to Thurston Group plc, Thurston
Building Systems being the manufacturing division for prefabricated,
portable and modular based buildings.
1998 - there was a management buyout and a change of name to
Thurston Group Limited. Subsequent growth has seen the opening of an
additional manufacturing site and an increase in the workforce to
200 employees.
Thurston Building Systems stands at the forefront of steel building
manufacturing technology and is well placed to deliver excellence in
product and performance demanded by it's customers.
