Laidlaw Handrail & Balustrade Solutions
As the market leader, Laidlaw can provide you
with handrail and balustrade solutions that comply with all
necessary Building Regulation requirements and British Standard
recommendations for structural stability, safety and accessibility.
Laidlaw offer five handrail and balustrade systems:
Nylon - The Laidlaw Nylon range is designed to
bring together the structural strength and non-corrosive nature of a
galvanised steel core with the pleasant feel and permanent colour of
a thick nylon sleeve. It is one of the most effective ways of
complying with all aspects of the guidance in Approved Document M
(2004). Stainless Steel Balustrade System
The Laidlaw Stainless Steel handrail and
balustrade system achieves the cool, sleek look often favoured in
the design of modern buildings. This aesthetically pleasing and
superbly engineered failing system is often used to complement the
stainless steel finish of other elements of the building, eg,
lighting and architectural hardware. Timber
Balustrades
The Laidlaw Timber handrail and balustrade system
provides the specifier with the ideal blend of traditional and
modern styles. It combines the modern lines of stainless steel or
nylon uprights, bends and brackets with the gentle warmth and
natural feel of a timber rail which is not cold to the touch.
Combi Balustrading
The Laidlaw Combi handrail and balustrade system
provides the specifier with a wide range of compbinations of
stainless steel and nylon components. Components can be
predominantly stainless steel where its aesthetic qualities are
required or mainly nylon where colour is preferred. Nylon rails can
be used externally to ensure that they are not cold to the touch.
3kN Balustrade Systems
Developed in direct response to the needs of our
customers, the Laidlaw 3kN handrail and balustrade system is quick
to install yet meets the enhanced loading requirements of BS 6399-1
for use in assembly areas, eg, retail environments, which could be
subject to overcrowding. Components are mainly of stainless steel,
with nylon-sleeved steel an alternative for handrails and the top
rails of balustrades where they need to be not cold to touch.
Balustrade Infill
Laidlaw offers a wide range of balustrade infill,
including stainless steel wire, tubular mid rails or infill panels,
to suit every need. The selection of the most appropriate infill
will depend on the visual effect required and on the type of
building. All infill options comply with the horizontal U.D. and
point load requirements of BS 6399-1. Structural
Glass for Balustrades
Laidlaw's structural glass balustrade system is
based on the concept of a free-standing balustrade, which does not
require separate uprights and infill panels. There are no gaps
through which a child could squeeze, nor can it be easily climbed.
Non-standard Handrail & Balustrade Options
As well as the standard components of the five
handrail and balustrade systems, Laidlaw offer a number of options
for clients and specifiers with specific requirements for rail
materials and/or infill panels. For details and prices of all the
non-standard options, please contact Laidlaw. A
Complete Supply & Fit Service
Laidlaw offers a complete supply and fit service,
from producing quotations from architects' drawings or bills of
quantities to on-site measurements, production drawings for customer
approval, manufacture and on-site installation. Whatever the
project, whether a hospital, school or bank, Laidlaw's Technical
Advisory Service is available to advise on all requirements of
handrail and balustrade systems. Guidance on
Regulations & Legislation for Balustrades & Handrails
Laidlaw trained staff can also offer guidance on
all relevant Building Regulations and legislation, including
Approved Document M, BS 8300 and the Disability Discrimination Act.
In particular, recommendations can be made on colour contrast,
materials that are not cold to the touch and the key accessibility
features of handrails and balustrades. A
Factory-assembled Component-based System
Laidlaw are committed to a component-based
system, which has a number of fundamental advantages:
- Having a stock of key components ensures
delivery, and the fact that the majority of the assembly is
carried out in the factory enables speedy installation once on
site
- The finished product is aesthetically
superior to one that is made up on site because there are no
unsightly welds, no sharp edges or angles, no deformation of
bends and no grinding is necessary
- A consistent finish is obtained within an
individual installation and the same appearance is guaranteed in
projects throughout the UK
- The top rail and infill panels are
demountable, making it easy to repair the balustrade without
damaging the surroundings
- The installation is sustainable as, at the
end of the life of the building, all components are recyclable.
