There is a misguided notion that screeded floor boxes can be installed and then it is perfectly safe to subsequently wash the floors with high pressure washers, with simultaneously, leads exiting from the floor box. This is highly NOT recommended. It is also dangerous.

The following sequence of photographs demonstrates the Electropatent IP66/67 floor box. The inner lid seals the box. The top lid can contain a floor finish i.e. marble, slate etc. With both lids in position, the box is waterproof and dustproof.

To assist 'day-time' usage, we have created a 'day-time' lid. The inner and outer lids are removed, connections made with power, voice/data sockets and the 'day-time' lid placed over the box. This will prevent the ingress of foreign matter. The 'day-time' lid can remain in place until such time as the floor is washed. The process is reversed with the 'day-time' lid removed and the inner and top lids replaced with the bolts fully tightened.

Various depths of outer lid can be available e.g., to pour in concrete. We have had experience of very heavy equipment driving over boxes. We must know about this so that consideration can be given to strengthening the lid to prevent stress fracture of the material in the lid: NOT damage to the lid.

IP66/67 In-Screed Floor Box with Tile Insert

Photographs below show the In-screed Floor Box (Part number EP 199-992-1015) in various stages of assembly.

The lid is secured to the frame using M5 stainless steel countersunk screws with rubber 'O' ring seals under each screw. The screws must be tightened in a clockwise sequence in order to maintain a good seal. The screws should be tightened until they just start to 'bite'. When they are all at the same level, they should each be tightened by a few turns at a time until resistance is felt and should only require hand tightening.

NOTE: The screws are NOT to be tightened using power drivers or be tightened in a single hit.

5 - The tile tray can then be secured to the lid using an M5 Allen bolt. The tile MUST have facility to accommodate the Allen bolt. The depth of the recess in the tile tray is 10mm.

4 - Once all the screws have been tightened, the tile tray is ready to be positioned on top of the lid.

Daytime Lid for IP67 Floor Box

In applications where the floor box is visible when in use, the services can be covered with a 'Daytime Lid'.  This provides an attractive and robust cover that allows access to the services without leaving the interior of the box exposed, and also removes a potential trip hazard.

IMPORTANT - The floor box is not rated to IP67 with the daytime lid fitted.
