Lighting Xscape offers
Lifetime cost of ownership is minimised through a modular design that allows first fix / second fix installation, the long life solid state light source, reduced energy consumption and embedded intelligence ensures compliance with legislative requirements without manual testing and there are no end of life disposal issues. Every part of the system: the solid-state light source, the battery, battery charger, internal temperature and mains supply is continuously monitored to ensure fitness for purpose throughout the lifetime of the unit. BS 5266-8:2004 requires a regime of daily and/or monthly and annual testing of every single emergency lighting luminaire in the system, with accurate records being kept of each inspection and test. Maintained luminaires and exit signs must be checked every day, and both maintained and non-maintained operated for a period every month and, depending upon the designed standby period, run for one or three hours every year. To carry out this procedure manually, whether using in-house or contract labour is obviously labour intensive and expensive, potentially disruptive to the normal routine of the premises and difficult to manage effectively. All products in the Xscape series feature embedded intelligence that automatically carries out the routine tests specified by BS 5266 part 8; the stored data can be retrieved using a walk-by hand-held programmer and subsequently downloaded to a PC for long-term storage. The Xscape SeriesA complete suite of products, which can be installed as stand-alone devices or networked systems, enable all areas within the premises to be provided with the optimum type of emergency lighting. All product variants have embedded intelligence that monitor the key parameters and self-test the unit to meet the legislative requirements. Each unit incorporates red and green LEDs and a sounder, providing local audible and visual indication of its status. Downlighters for installation in corridors and open areas feature interchangeable lenses to optimise the light output to the location. Mini downlighters replace a standard size lighting unit; the control electronics are housed in a separate module. Exit signs are suitable for wall or ceiling mounting. Bulkhead fittings are available both as standard luminaires and exit signs, suitable for internal or external locations (sealed to IP65). For larger installations, central control panels are available with one to five loops; each loop supporting up to 250 individual devices of any type. Up to 32 panels can be networked together to give single point management of systems with up to 40,000 downlighters, exit signs or bulkhead fittings. Each device is allocated a unique address, and the physical location of every luminaire in the system is identified with a descriptive label – e.g. “Ground floor east wing corridor”. Retrofit modules enable the benefits and potential cost savings of the Xscape family to be added to existing 8W to 70W fluorescent tube units without replacing the entire assembly. Data capture is an important legislative requirement; the Xscape family provides two alternative methods of data recovery from the individual units. Hand-held infra-red remotes enable walk-by data capture for stand-alone units, alternatively, the units can be controlled and managed from a central panel similar in concept to a fire alarm system with the test data being automatically collected by the panel. The hand-held unit is fitted with a USB 2.0 port that enables a simple connection to any PC. Proprietary Illuminex GUI software loaded on the PC enables all data held in the control panel to be downloaded into a database for analysis and storage. In systems with more than one control panel, the data held at each panel is accessible via a RS485 link, allowing all the system data to be collected at the Illuminet supervisor panel. Application guideA comprehensive guide, which sets out the requirements of BS 5266-1:2005 in an easy to understand manner, has been produced and is freely available on request.
