Abacus Lighting Limited is one of the world’s
leading designers and manufacturers of exterior lighting
systems. With a broad range of application expertise, Abacus can
provide complete solutions from standard fittings to one-off
bespoke structures for any outdoor lighting requirement.
Installations include floodlighting for sport and large areas
and luminaires for car parks, roads and infrastructure, all
complemented by a series of lighting column and
lighting mast systems.
Car Park, Road Amenity Lighting & Infrastructure Lighting
The Abacus range of amenity lighting presents an
aesthetic and energy efficient solution for the lighting of open
areas, car parks, roadways and infrastructure.
Given the environmental concerns over light pollution, Abacus has
developed a series of high performance luminaires to offer effective
control over obtrusive light. The Orion AL4000 incorporates a low
profile bowl with wide overhanging canopy, which reduces light
overspill to less than 1%. In addition, the Orion features the
unique patented Optimum Reflector System (ORS) designed to produce a
square illuminance pattern, which maximises lighting efficiency
resulting in fewer lighting points being required over a large area.
The model has become the market leader and key customers include
Tesco, Asda and Morrisons. The recently launched
Orion 2 and Orion 3 lanterns continue the success by delivering
equally high performance but for smaller scale developments. They
feature the same unique ORS however allow lower mounting heights,
typically 5m to 8m. The Pegasus 2 AL4250 completes
the suite of high performance luminaires offering the unique ORS and
features a low profile body with flat polycarbonate bowl. This
provides a lighting design that reduces glare and offers optimum
control of light direction, particularly upward light and overspill.
The Orion series and Pegasus 2 luminaires have an ingress protection
of IP65 and are finished with a polyester powder coating available
in a range of RAL colours, providing the design flexibility to
accommodate any given project or corporate image.
For roadways, Abacus Lighting manufactures a range of high
performance road lanterns for either post top mounting or side
entry, including versions for low light pollution installations. All
sealed with an ingress protection of IP65.
External Floodlighting
Suitable for a broad range of large area and
outdoor sports lighting applications, the Abacus series of
floodlights combines high performance with effective control of
light pollution.
The Challenger series all feature the Abacus
Light Control System, which protect the night’s sky by minimising
upward light pollution and overspill. With the wide range of
application versatility offered, and ingress protection of IP66,
they make an ideal choice for any floodlighting scheme.
Challenger 1 is a double asymmetric distribution
floodlight and is designed for lighting outdoor sports grounds,
smaller sports stadia and large open areas.
Challenger 2 is an asymmetric distribution floodlight primarily used
for side lighting sports systems, including roof mounting in
stadiums. Challenger 3 is a symmetrical
distribution floodlight range; designed specifically for lighting
large sports stadia using corner mast systems.
Floodlighting Columns, Masts & Structures
With the expertise of a team of qualified
engineers, Abacus design and manufacture the widest range of columns
and masts to suit any purpose, and offers structures up to 70m in
height with multiple operating system options, including the world
renowned base hinged system. In addition, as a response to the ever
more demanding planning and environmental restrictions placed on
certain sites, Abacus has developed a range of telescopic masts,
which allow the structure to lower within itself when not in use.
These are currently available from 8m to 50m in height when fully
extended. Abacus also has the capability of supplying bespoke
structures if a project requires a unique solution.
Design, Installation & Maintenance
Abacus Contracting is a dedicated in-house team
qualified and certified to work across a range of sectors, including
airports, M.O.D., National Grid, retail and sports grounds. Whilst
offering a free lighting design service to all customers, their
capabilities also extend to handling all installation requirements
associated with an outdoor lighting scheme; from design and
installation of foundations to commissioning the lighting system in
accordance with the appropriate regulatory body. Beyond this, the
team can maintain any lighting installation worldwide from planned
regular maintenance to critical repair work, to ensure total
compliance and continued optimum lighting levels.
