Soon after the the Second World War ended three brothers left the armed forces returning to Doncaster. The country’s reconstruction of the housing stock and other buildings was beginning and demand for building materials high. The Broome Brothers began making breeze blocks in 1948 and has done so ever since.
In the early days blocks were made by hand during the night. For a number of years the blocks that were produced were transported to local sites early in a morning and laid by the brothers, an arrangement called "supply and fix".
The company continued to have steady growth until 1963 when a substantial external investment in the business enabled the production and turnover to increase tenfold which made Broome a major supplier in the block industry.
The family regained full ownership of the company in 1998 and under the control of the current management who have some 35 years of industry experience, Broome Bros now look forward confidently to the future and continue to provide their usual personal and professional service.
