Danfoss - VLT® Training Programme

View the latest training courses from Danfoss:

The Danfoss VLT® Training Programme is designed to offer professional training in multiple subjects at various levels for Danfoss VLT product users.

These training courses are designed to improve the general knowledge of the technologies used in today’s modern Variable Speed Drives and more specifically highlight the menu structures, common user faults and common pit-falls of the Danfoss VLT® range of Variable Speed Drives and their associated options.

There are three main levels of training:

  • Level 1 - Basic - (Technician / Installation / Commissioning)
  • Level 2 - Intermediate - (As above plus more depth, advanced features)
  • Level 3 - Advanced - (Bespoke, designed with you in mind; this would mean your specific set ups & options would be covered)

Our training courses are held at various venues across the UK:

  • Danfoss UK Headquarters in Denham, Bucks
  • Danfoss VLT Service Centre in Oldham (PNP)
  • Danfoss Regional Competence Centre premises

There is a cost to attend all courses in the Danfoss VLT® Training Programme.

Below is a brief overview of the main scheduled courses currently on offer in the Danfoss VLT® Training Programme:

001 VLT® Drives Training No Bias - (Level 1 - Basic)

This course is designed to familiarize end-users with the standard features of the VLT® FC product range. Topics covered include basic design of an inverter, basic motor theory and how we obtain variable speed from a fixed frequency & voltage supply. We run through the basic setting up of a drive, common faults codes, fault finding menu structures, self-tuning facilities, basic programming and storage of parameters. We also describe & remedy the secondary effects of using variable speed drives. The course finishes with exercises on a 240 Vac “demo drive” training rig and is designed to test your new found knowledge on programming. As this course has no product bias; it is suitable for VLT Automation, AQUA, HVAC, Refrigeration and other “FC” products.

Duration: 1 Day
Prerequisite: Basic electrical knowledge

002 VLT® HVAC Drive Training – (Level 1 - Basic)

This course is designed to familiarize end-users, technicians and technical staff with the standard features of the VLT® HVAC Drive product range (FC-102). Topics covered include basic design of an inverter, basic motor theory and how we obtain variable speed from a fixed frequency and voltage supply. We run through the basic setting up of a drive, common faults codes, fault finding menu structures, self-tuning facilities, basic programming and storage of parameters. We describe & remedy the secondary effects of using variable speed drives. We consider the basics of closed loop control, PID tuning and energy saving. Wizards & short menus also covered, plus a large section on energy saving and savings calculations etc. The course finishes with exercises on a 240 Vac “demo drive” training rig and is designed to test your new found knowledge on programming.

Duration: 1 Day
Prerequisite: Basic electrical knowledge

003 VLT® AQUA Drive Training – (Level 1 - Basic)

This course is designed to familiarize end-users and technicians with the standard features of the VLT® AQUA Drive product range (FC-202). We show you why and where you would use the product; and how it would be configured for the main applications. The course finishes with exercises on a 240 Vac “demo drive” training rig and is designed to test your new found knowledge on programming. Basic closed loop control, wizards & short menus also covered, plus a large section on energy saving and savings calculations etc.

Duration: 1 Day
Prerequisite: Basic electrical knowledge

004 VLT® Refrigeration Drive Training – (Level 1 - Basic)

This course is designed to familiarize end-users and technicians with the standard features of the VLT® Refrigeration Drive product range (FC-103). Topics covered include basic design of an inverter, basic motor theory and how we obtain variable speed from a fixed frequency and voltage supply. We run through the basic setting up of a drive, common faults codes, fault finding menu structures, self-tuning facilities, basic programming and storage of parameters. We describe & remedy the secondary effects of using variable speed drives and consider the basics of closed loop control. We show you why and where you would use the product; and how it would be configured for the main applications. Special attention is given to the additional specialist “wizard” tools which makes programming for the specific applications in refrigeration an absolute cinch! Short menus, energy saving and energy savings calculations are also covered. The course finishes with exercises on a 240 Vac “demo drive” training rig and is designed to test your new found knowledge on programming.

Duration: 1 Day
Prerequisite: Basic electrical knowledge

005 SLC (Smart Logic Controller) and PID (Closed loop & tuning) - (Level 2 - Intermediate)

This course is designed to familiarise the user with the SLC features, Boolean logic rules, ladder diagrams, comparators and timers etc. Learn to develop programs to suit your needs The second part of the course, is a more detailed description of closed loop control, PID tuning. The course finishes with exercises on a 240 Vac “demo drive” training rig and is designed to test your new found knowledge on programming.

SLC

Danfoss VLT® FC Series Products also have the SMART LOGIC CONTROLLER (SLC) on board; a 20 step linear processor with logic rules, timers and comparators. Need a special customised feature – Write your own!

PID

Closed loop control, an in depth description of the terms, how a feedback system works what are the common issues, how to configure FC series VLTs to run in “closed loop” mode Configuring IO, Scaling & Automatic Tuning.

Duration: 1 Day
Prerequisite: Basic electrical knowledge

006 MCT10 Motion Control Tool Software - (Level 2 - Intermediate)

Learn to use MCT10 Software application, a neat software tool that allows programming of the drive on and off line; even using multi set ups. Learn to use the features of this (free) product, compare parameter sets and store the setting of your drives (be future proof). Work off-line to develop drive parameter sets, create working project files, compare set up files, scope function & using MCT10 in multi-set up applications. All VLT Products are configurable through their keypads (if they have one). You can also use this software application to upload and download parameters from the VLT®; store project files and compare set ups of drives.

Please note: we request that if you wish to attend this VLT MCT10 course that you download the latest version of the software the day before the training, to ensure that you are using the same version of software as ourselves. The free version of this software is downloadable from the Danfoss website using the link below.

Duration: 1 Day
Prerequisite: Basic Danfoss product knowledge

Please note: In addition to the standard courses above we also offer bespoke training and can design a course tailored to your specific requirements; delivered at a location in your area or at your premises. Please contact Danfoss VLT Training for further details.
