Decking - Flooring Systems
Materials
ecodek® solid composite decking is a mixture of hardwood fibres (approximately 55%) and high density polyethylene with additives to improve physical, weathering and processing properties.
The polyethylene material is sourced from recycled bottles.
The responsibly and sustainably sourced hardwood fibres are filtered and dried before being compounded with the polyethylene.
Specification
Basic specification guidance is given here, but greater detail is provided at www.ecodek.co.uk.
All profiles can be supplied cut to length in order to minimise waste and any surplus product will be bought back by ecodek® and recycled into future production.
Applications
ecodek® AT and HD profiles are well suited for use as decking, balcony floors, pool side areas, marinas and similar applications where a non-load bearing support or structure is required.
Profiles are also available for fencing, railings, cladding, and post and rail projects.
Deck / Floor Construction
Substructure of treated softwood, composite or steel. For joist centres see Table 1 below. Where boards are to be laid at an angle other than 90° to the joist, reduce the joist centres accordingly. Allow minimum 5mm between boards and at board ends (10mm for hot, humid, damp or poorly ventilated areas).
Screw holes must be countersunk with a SMART-BIT® or 3.5mm combi drill bit. Use ecodek® stainless steel composite deck screws. Fit each board over at least 3 joists with 2 screws at every joist point. Deck ends must be screwed down 20mm to 40mm in from the cut end. Allow adequate ventilation under the deck, allowing larger gaps and air vents where the deck is to be sunken or enclosed.
Do not lay the boards directly onto a surface that is not self-draining.
